MY FAVORITE SINGERS: Jackie and Carly Rose

I've had a hundred favorite singers over my lifetime, but today, I would like to post on my current two.  Let me start with Jackie Evancho, who is all of 12 years old with the voice of a mature and operatic angel (note how she is growing up in the following sequence):

At the age of 10, Jackie ended up #2 in America's Got Talent.  That year she became the best-selling debut artist of 2010, the youngest top-10 artist in U.S. history and the youngest solo artist to go platinum (one million). In 2011 she was ranked as the top ClassicalAlbums Artist.  She just this week was featured in a PBS Great Performances special called Jackie Evancho:  Music of the Movies.  Her older brother Jacob sang a duet, and he, too, was good.  She sang from her latest album, Songs from the Silver Screen.  Yes, Jackie is growing up:

At the age of 12 she now looks to be approaching 20.

Carly Rose Sonenclar (above) is 13, and is known as the lovable little girl with the huge voice.  Watch her playing the piano and singing "Imagine."  Her rendition of Adele's "Rolling the Deep."  I have to think that she is the favorite to win the X-Factor competition this year.

Why?  She is competing against a middle-aged country and western singer (and how many of these fans are across the nation?), Tate Stevens, and a hybrid of five individual singers Simon Cowell tried to harmonize, and largely failed.  The Fifth Harmony (teenagers, two at 15) are okay, and should be quite good in time, but they are not the best today.

The X-Factor final shows are always entertaining.  They will each be two hours long on FOX on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.  Last year Melanie Amaro won the $5 million recording contract, here with her mentor Simon:

Guests included Justin Bieber, Stevie Wonder, Pitbull and many others.  This year?  For the record, the British X-Factor winner this year was James Arthur.  He earned a one million pound contract.

But back to my favorites, #1 is Jackie because she sings songs of my era.  Carly Rose mostly does today.  I don't know much about today.

The eye of Tropical Cyclone Evan, now up to 130 MPH, just passed slightly north of Fiji, and there is now no power for Nadi.  The damage, though, might not be as severe as Samoa, where 4 died.

Where did you get that last photo of Jackie? That is nothing like she looks today; it's awful!! Otherwise your comments about her are right on, thanks.

That last picture of Jackie Evancho is hideous. She does not look like that, so somehow the picture got squished and widened (aspect ratio wasn't locked). You should replace it with any number of available, and beautiful, pictures of her.

Yes, she is growing up. This her photo from the PBS program commenting on;

Jackie Evancho: Music of the Movies

Yes, it is a photo of her, but the photo is distorted! I have seen her in concert twice - the last one just weeks ago. She DOES NOT look like this!!! I don't know why you say, "Yes, she is growing up," as if it explains the photo. Whoever re-sized the photograph did not preserve the aspect ratio, and the result was that it was widened and shortened, making her look fat. She is a very petite 12-year old.

Again, this is not how she looks. Please find another photo to replace it; there are plenty to choose from online.

I don't think you understand which photo people are referring to. It's not the black & white album cover (old-fashioned Hollywood movie star pose), but the one below it, where she's wearing a pink garment and matching lipstick. It's the photo right above the one of Carly Rose Sonenclar.

This photo is not from her Music of the Movies concert. PLEASE take this photo down or replace it. You were told by two people that the photo is distorted and makes the artist look awful, but you still haven't changed it. Twice you say, "Yes, she is growing up" (once in the article, just before the picture, and again in your response to two posts informing you that Jackie Evancho does not look like this). This is NOT Jackie Evancho "growing up." She still looks exactly like she does on the album cover.

I don't know why you would want to taint her image with such a horrible photo, after saying such nice things about her in your blog post.

What the hell? That picture of Jackie Evancho makes her look like a cow. Have you even seen her? Search Google images for "Jackie Evancho Cirque du Soleil blue carpet interview." She's in a blue dress. That's what she looks like. See the difference?

I don't know where you got that abomination, but judging from the comments on it, you seem to be happy insulting your favorite singer.

For the record, that photo of Jackie so condemned was taken when she was commenting in person of this show. For Jackie at 13, go to:
