GEORGE CLOONEY AND HAWAII
Hawaii was a big winner at the Golden Globes tonight, for George Clooney won the award for Best Actor (drama) and the Descendants for Best Motion Picture. This insures Clooney for the Oscar on February 26. I reviewed the movie in my posting of 27November2011. The soundtrack (Gabby Pahinui, Rane Kane, Keola Beamer, Lena Machado, Sonny Chillingworth, Jeff Peterson and Dennis Kamakahi) was very special:
I even just ordered this CD from Amazon.com. However, as you know, if your purchase exceeds $25, shipping is free. So, I went ahead and also included "Fifty Greatest Hawaii Music Albums Ever" and "Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters Collection 2."
This is a good a time as any to express my astonishment about two films this past year. The Artist, for example, won three Golden Globes. I went to see it and was so underwhelmed that I did not even bother with a review. The other one was The Tree of Life, which did, I should indicate, win the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. However, I called it the most boring movie I have ever seen...perhaps an unwarranted hyperbole. There were elements of both, of course, definitely entertaining. However, I totally missed the purported greatness of both.
