While mostly outplayed in regulation and overtime, Japan zapped the U.S. in penalty kicks to win the 2011 Women's World Cup today in Frankfurt, 2-2 and 3-1.  This is the first time Japan has ever beaten America, which is rated #1 in the world.  Japan had to gain victories over Germany (#2) and Sweden (#5) to reach the final.

In the dumps after the Great Tohoku Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Cataclysm, and only two days away from Super Typhoon Ma-On, if any country deserves a bit of joy, it is Japan.

Further good news for Japan.  While Typhoon Ma-On, now at 105 MPH, is predicted to strengthen into a Category 3 by tomorrow, it is projected to only be a Category 2 storm when it nears Japan in two days or so, should further weaken to a Category 1 when it gets close to Tokyo...
...and could well move east after that to miss Fukushima.  Here is the latest computer forecast:
