Day 142 of the Lower Puna Eruption, and recovery continues.
***************
September is a 1978 song by Earth, Wind & Fire which reached #1 on the U.S. R&B chart and starts with "Do you remember the 21st night of September?" Some other lyrics were, well...
Hey hey hey
Ba de ya, say do you remember
Ba de ya, dancing in September
Ba de ya, never was a cloudy day
Ba de ya, say do you remember
Ba de ya, dancing in September
Ba de ya, never was a cloudy day
Ba duda, ba duda, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda
Ba duda, badu, ba duda, badu
Ba duda, badu, ba duda
Can you believe that was 40 years ago?
Tomorrow is the Fall Equinox, or the first day of Fall. Last year I had a fabulous fall fantasy, and here is one of my photos, this one taken in Sapporo at Nakajima Park:
I've been thinking about visiting Jindaiji for the 2018 fall rose blooming. "Pearl's" statue is in the midst of rose plants. On the other hand, I was there in November of 2016:
But this would be my final visit, for the Panda tour for the Army football game convinced me that my travel days are about to end. My final chance for a few more vests from Bangkok and golf shirts from Seoul.
Completely changing subjects, it's bad enough that virtually everything President Donald Trump does pisses me off, but for him to roll back curbs on methane leaks to help the oil/gas industry on tribal and public lands, could well be that tipping point trigger for The Venus Syndrome, which now has risen close to the top as my next book.
I've been waiting for some incentive to focus on this effort. This could well be it.
About the Donald, who knows what will happen over the next few days regarding the Christine Blasey Ford sexual misconduct accusation of Brett Kavanaugh, but it's too late for him to come clean and say, you know, I was only in high school, I was a bit tipsy, and am sorry for my youthful attempt, which, incidentally, failed. Standards of conduct and decency shift over time, and boys were just being boys in those days, as they might still be today. This would have remained a minor taint on his record, but nothing compared to being forever labeled as a liar, for there is no reason to doubt her that something uncomfortable indeed happened. Next week will be crucial for both.
There is already one certified liar on the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas, who in 1991 was challenged by Anita Hill. It was a different kind of sexual encounter, nothing physical, but the fact of the matter is that he lied. He has been an embarrassment, but votes exactly how conservative Republicans want, so all has been forgiven by them. This could well be the primary reason why Kavanaugh will sneak through to join that motley group. However, combined with several other mistrustful statements by Kavanaugh throughout his confirmation, the #MeToo factor could well have provided that crucial nail for Democrats to delay selection of this tie-breaking ninth Supreme Court judge confirmation.
Otherwise, here comes the weekend, and maybe tonight will be your night. Ba de ya, ba duda.
Me? I'll walk 18 holes at Ala Wai. On the way home I'll drop by J-Shop and get half a pound of wagyu and some o-toro sashimi. I'll have a special dinner on my lanai to anticipate the Fall Equinox.
The Dow Jones Industrials broke it's all-time record yesterday, up 251 to 26,657. However, today, up another 76 to 26,732.
