Mike Lopresti has done an admirable job reporting on the London Olympics.  Here are two memorable quotes from his column:

1.  Manuel Miningfel, Micronesia weightlifter:  "I expected to do better, but the weights were too heavy."

2.  Sergey Kirdyapkin, Russian walker, who won a gold medal in the 50 km Walk:  "We are just not right in the head.  That's why we are interested in it."

Do you recall the song played during the U.S. Women's Gymnastic Team competition?  It is "Home" by the past American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips.  Released in May, "Home" just jumped from #98 to #1 on the iTunes singles chart.

"Reach for the Top" and "Undeniable" by Jeff Durand served as the team's pre-Olympics video.

Auditions for the 12th season of American Idol just ended.  Ryan Seacrest will be back, but only Mariah Carey has been officially named to be a judge.  Nick Jonas has been mentioned as an addition.  Randy Jackson?  Not sure.

In comparison, the 38th season of Saturday Night Live premieres on September 15.  Remember that crew from 1975?  Garret Morris is now 75.  Chevy Chase will hit 69 in October.

Speaking of 69, want to guess how old this guy is?

Mick Jagger is 69, three years younger than me.  So, finally returning full circle to the London Olympics, Paul McCartney is 70 years old:

In the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Gordon will become a hurricane, heading straight for the Eastern Seaboard, but will weaken and dissipate before causing any damage.  In the East Pacific, Tropical Storm Hector will just further weaken.  But in the West Pacific, Typhoon Kai-tak will make landfall sufficiently north of Hainan and way south of Hong Kong:
