In any case, the oppressive haze smothering the northern part of Thailand is caused by brushfires. However, apparently, corn could well be the major culprit. Corn?
It turns out that a major source of this smoke comes from the burning of nearly 80% of the corn crop. Not corn for humans to eat, but for farm animals. They won't now be able to re-change their diets away from chicken, pigs and cattle, so are now stuck with what to do with the corn fiber. It would seem to me that a double benefit would be to economically re-cyle all this biomass into the soil without burning it. Then again, there is always conversion to bio-methanol for a future direct methanol fuel cell transport transition.
An attempt has been made to build a seastead 15 miles from Phuket by U.S. citizen Chad Elwartowski and his Thai wife, going by Nadia Summergirl. He supposedly made a fortune in early Bitcoin trading. The Phuket Marine Office said they are in violation of the Criminal Code for bothering navigation and must tear down their structure. Lot of bluffing going on, but the Third Naval Area Command has indicated that conviction could bring life imprisonment or death.
