Summary:  A very good day for Humanity.

If you've been reading this blog site the past few days, I tried to fairly put the issue of these George Floyd protests in perspective.  The following crystallizes the essence, links it with this still serious pandemic and suggests a way to Make America a Better Nation.
  • While the ultimate solution to eliminating racial riots will take time, effort and persistence, much can nevertheless be initiated now into the next decade.  The New York Times provided a graphic that indicates Minnesota harbored a condition that exists across the nation:
  • Termed the "Minnesota Paradox," this household disparity needs to be reduced to allow for a more stable home life where the next generation can be properly raised.
  • Regarding COVID-19, the term herd immunity is synonymous with a point in time when 60% of the population has antibodies, thus protecting society from outbreaks.  Something like the same will need to be attained in the nation:  shifting away from animosity to appreciation.  The African-American population today is angry, particularly male youths.  If this fury can be reduced by 60%, any community will become less prone to erupt into turmoil.  This cannot happen overnight.  It takes time to improve economic, educational and sociological conditions, and Democrats treat this matter as a priority.  Republicans don't.  Immediate solution:  elect Democrats on November 3, and as many females as possible.
  • Another term is asymptomatic, which is the bane of this pandemic, because only accurate testing can neutralize this source of infection.  While testing remains iffy and too inaccurate, at least improvements are occurring, and a vaccine looms on the horizon.  There will never be a vaccine to prevent cops from killing.  But proper training and constant assessment can reduce the number of potential police office at the front line.  Derek Chauvin had 18 prior complaints filed against him by the Minneapolis Police Department's Internal Affairs.  Clearly, he should have been let go earlier, or at least placed in desk job.
  • Click on David Brooks' op-ed entitled:  If We Had a Real Leader.  Great leadership depends on a strong foundation of morality.
  • Gather your best quotes from President Donald Trump.  Then compare them with these from Eleanor Roosevelt, our First Lady from 1933 to 1945.  This how American can become great.  Did you know she was the niece of Theodore Roosevelt and a fifth cousin of FDR, her husband?
Ah, finally, we're into the Year 2000.  Both my wife and I retired to, at the age of 59, totally change our goals and lifestyle.  Maybe the best decision I ever made.  I was provided with an office on the Manoa Campus with free parking for gaining emeritus status.  I'm still there today.   The Year 2000:
  • This was a rare leap year, the first century year since 1600.  The next will be in 2400.
  • Peanuts comic strip ends following the death of Charles M. Schulz.
  • 17 years of bull market ended with the dot-com bubble.
  • Conjunction of seven celestial bodies.
  • India reaches a population of one billion.  Today, 1.35 billion.  An increase of 350 million, greater than the total number in the USA today, 328 million.
  • George W. Bush is ruled winner of the presidential election by the Supreme Court on December 12.
Here are the top 10 songs of the Year 2000, in five minutes.  Today, I'm free from this quarantine.  I'm almost afraid to leave this building.  I have never ever been stuck in one place this long.  I still await my scotch/dinner/karaoke sessions with friends in my apartment.  Perhaps next month:
