DAY 1: Honolulu to Bangkok

All went well.  Checked into Japan Air Lines. They sent us to their Sakura Lounge, which is shared with American Airlines.  Had a very satisfactory breakfast, and thought I'd log this meal into my computer...and...no computer!!!!!  When I went through the processing line, I'd swear I electronically saw it in my bag.  Their system now is quite advanced, but this takes longer, so the lines are now a problem.

This means that my computer was stolen from this station to the lounge, and probably there, when I went to get food.  On the other hand, maybe I just forgot to put my new Mac Air into my bag. I won't know until I return home in two weeks.

You would think that I would be alarmed, but for reasons that make sense to me, I almost felt relieved.  I've been waiting to end this blog site for two years now, and maybe I can just stop blogging.

Then again, all the hotels I'll be staying in have computers I can use.  I'm now in the Marriott Marquis M Club pounding out this posting.  I needed a lot of help to get going, but here I am.  I doubt if I'll be inserting daily postings, but I might.

I am sending this from the M Club in the Bangkok Marriott Marquis, with a glass of Margherita.

So going back to Honolulu, here was my Sakura Lounge brunch.

Note that I'm now up to two alcoholic drinks.  I finished with a Japanese scotch (#3) on rocks.

On the plane, we were served Champagne Ayala (#4):

My seating companion had steak, while I settled for the Japanese set:

I had a chilled Yukino Bijin Junmai Daiginjo, hot Azumaichi Junmai Daiginjo Nero and Kirin Beer (#7).  I had Yamasaki Single Malt Whisky (#8) while watching The End of the Matinee.

This was the best Japanese film I've seen in a decade.

I then ordered some hot soba with cold Azumaichi Junmai Daiginjo Nero and Asahi Beer (#10):

Landed at Narita and went into the Sakura Lounge, which is far, far superior to the United Club there.  A salad and beef curry over rice, with a red wine, cold beer and chilled sake (#13)

Boarded JAL to Bangkok, and started with a Suntory Hakusho (#14) over rocks and snacks.  This and that Yamasaki beat out the world as the best whiskies over the past few years.

Dinner began with some appetizers and into what was indicated as "wagyu" beef, with s Suntory Beer (#15).

Asked where the beef came from, and was told Australia.  That piece of meat was almost as good as the authentic Japanese wagyu beef.  Dessert was Cream Puff with bitter chocolate and a glass of Cave de Tan Cross Hermitage Grand Classique (#16):

Ended my dining with udon plus Ebesu Beer (#17):

Arrived in Bangkok at around midnight, checked through customs, picked up our luggage, caught the AOL Limousine to the Marriott Marquis, and had red wine (#18) provided by the hotel in our room:

From my apartment in Honolulu to hotel room in Bangkok took 24.5 hours.  We were exhausted, but okay.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose to 29,551 in Wednesday, February 12, another all-time high.
