COMPARATIVE ENERGY PRICES, GLORIA AND JOE

Time to return to energy, and, in case you were wondering how your electricity and gasoline costs compare to that of the world, here are a few examples. (European prices from Europe’s Energy Portal. Also from Wikipedia and the Energy Information Administration. )

Let's look at my recent predictions:

1. Well, I was correct on 5 of 6 Academy Award selections (see March 6 blog), missing The Hurt Locker, which I indicated was the movie that most affected me this year. I should have gone with my feelings than the box office.

2. On March 4 I indicated that the Health Plan would be signed by President Obama before Easter, mainly because the Democrats were clever enough to find something called "reconciliation," which only requires a majority vote, bypassing the potential of a filibuster in the Senate. The primary problem at this point is that the House only passed their version in a 220-215 vote, and the anti-abortion Stupak dozen won't accept that provision in the Senate bill. The President wants Congress to act by March 18, but it looks like the timing will be closer to the 29th when they leave on their Easter break. "Something" will happen, and I still think he will sign it within a month.

My last supper in DC was with Gloria and Joe Vadus at Clydes. However, we began with a martini (could have been a triple or quadruple), with no less than Tanqueray's super premium 10, no make that two, with significant pupus, where we had a chance to chat for a couple of hours at their home. This is a tradition that Pearl and I cherished. Joe was the designated driver, so he just pontificated. We again rationalized the Blue Revolution and developed a progressive future pathway for Planet Earth and Humanity. I wish I could remember what I had for dinner.

Next, Las Vegas.
