I was just about to post my blog today when I saw that a shooter using an automatic weapon shot at Donald Trump during his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. He was extremely lucky, as a bullet just grazed his ear, while a person in the audience behind him was killed and another seriously wounded. The assassin was killed. Watch this video.
I haven't seen any official report, but witnesses mentioned at least seven shots that sounded like firecrackers. Trump is fine and was walked off the stage by secret service agents into a van to take him to a nearby hospital.
President Joe Biden tried to talk to Trump and had an announcement that condemned the shooting.Lincoln in 1865, James Garfield 1881, William McKinley 1901 and John F. Kennedy 1963. There are always threats to U.S. presidents, so protection is crucial. Barack Obama and Joe Biden were well protected. Trump is only a former president, so this might have been a factor.
As far as presidents go, every modern president has survived potential assassination attempts and/or planned incidents, including Trump. In 2017, the Secret Service thwarted a reported plan by an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) affiliate to attack Trump during the 2017 ASEAN Summits in the Philippines.
In 1912, former President Teddy Roosevelt was shot during a campaign speech in Milwaukee — though the bullet lodged in Roosevelt’s chest, the former president immediately removed a bloody 50-page speech he had tucked where the bullet entered, which he credited with his survival. He finished his speech with a bullet inside him.
About Teddy Roosevelt in Milwaukee, the Republican National Convention begins Monday in that city. Wisconsin is a relatively safe state, but Milwaukee is the 11th most dangerous city in the USA.
Milwaukee faces ongoing challenges with violent crime, with aggravated assault being the most prevalent. At a violent crime rate of 15.18 per 1,000 residents, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is one of the most dangerous cities in the United States.
