SOURCE OF COSTCO KIRKLAND BOOZE

This blog site has officially shifted to:

New SIMPLE SOLUTIONS for PLANET EARTH AND HUMANITY

I will maintain this current site, but only until the end of the year.  Then, this blog will become my testing ground for new books I will be drafting, plus a few jokes and photos of general interest.

Summary:  Not good at all.

Ah, Friday, no better day than to buy some scotch, gin vodka and other kinds of booze from Costco.  But which companies actually make them, for Kirkland is not a distillery?  Costco does try to keep this info from you.

If you are of the nature to do true due diligence, you can start with:

Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau database

But that could involve a lot of effort, so Thrillist went to Stuart Jensen of Denver's Curio Bar, plus the internet at large:

  • Kirkland Signature Blended Canadian Whiskey ($18.99):  probably Crown Royal, from both sources.
  • Kirkland Signature Vodka ($19.19)
    • The persistent rumor is that Grey Goose is the source.
    • While Jensen says probably from France, GG is likely not the answer.
  • Kirkland Signature Blended Scotch Whisky ($17.99):
    • Jensen says most probably Dewar's White Label, although the KSBSW is somewhat lighter in color with a strange smell.  I just bought a bottle of DWL, and paid around $26.  Good time for me to make a comparison.
    • Internet Tullibardine, a kind of Macallan, perhaps from Johnny Walker, then again, maybe Cutty Sark (which comes from Macallan).

  • Kirkland Signature Anejo Tequila ($19.99):
    • From the internet, same source as Ed Hardy Tequila (NOM 1472), which also makes KAH...the skull tequila.  Why?  Something to do with NOM, the number that makes tequila authentic.
    • Jensen says Hornitos, with less depth.
  • Kirkland Signature London Dry Gin ($18.59):
    • Internet:  comes from DC Flynt WM Selections.  The bottle is styled like Bombay Sapphire, but that is probably not the gin inside.
    • Jensen:  can't be Bombay because the Kirkland botanicals are different.  Probably closer to Tanqueray or Gordon's.
    • I have all four bottles at home, and I've never tried a taste test.  Now, I will.

#75 on my favorite list is Born Too Late by the Poni-Tails.  Nothing much to this song.  It was released the year I graduated from high school in 1958, so the transition factor must have been dominant.  This was the B-side of one of their records, which enabled them to join the list of other one-hit wonders.  All three girls grew up in Ohio and enjoyed fruitful family lives.  Amazingly enough, they actually still have a tour schedule, with one replacement for death.
