New deaths:

• A bad day for Humanity, as the World new deaths jumped to 6291, led by France with 1417 and the USA with 1371, the highest ever one-day rise for all three.
• About the U.S., it took a month to go from zero to 5,000 deaths.  It look less than five days to add another 5,000 deaths.  More than 40% of these deaths are from the New York metro area.  Their new deaths from yesterday numbered 736, placing #4 in the world to France, the U.S. and the UK.
• No report from China.  Probably not a good sign.  However, the 76-day lockdown of Wuhan was removed, but all still need to wear face masks and take temperature checks when they go out.
• People were beginning to walk around in parts of Japan, for they appeared to have overcome this pandemic.  However, Tokyo over the past few days has experienced a scary jump in new COVID-19 cases.  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today declared a state of emergency for specific urban areas of the country.

About Donald Trump's Bombshell Announcement, he hasn't made it yet. However, if he has the ability to truly search his soul, and is wise--yes, asking for way too much--chances are he will come to a conclusion that his only way to overcome all the blunders and insults and whatever else he has perpetrated with regard to this novel coronavirus, so that he can begin to live the personal life that he desires, is just announce to the World:

I have decided not to run for re-election in November.  The COVID-19 pandemic is too monumental a problem for me to manage, while optimizing my political future.  I thus will take on a full-time task to overcome this world tragedy for the USA and World.

I have nine months to bring people together...the American public...Republicans and Democrats...governors and mayors...the U.S. Congress...especially including Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer...and rest of the World.  I worry about a second wave that could come in the Fall.  I'm concerned about how best our country can economically recover.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933 announced his New Deal. In addition to solving the COVID-19 riddle, I propose creating the Big Deal, a job-creation program to rebuild our infrastructure.  My Wall?  In time, not now.  I would like for all of us to work together, partner in this $5 trillion effort to, indeed, make the USA a greater nation.

From today I will work closely with governors to determine how the Federal government can help shift needed COVID-19 resources as necessary.  In the meantime, I hereby declare that non-essential workers all stay home.  There can be no movement between counties and states unless absolutely necessary.  Commerce, of course, but physical distancing will be required until every citizen can get tested for COVID-19.

What are the odds of this happening?  Probably infinitesimal, but not zero.  However, for a virtual certainty that he will forever historically be labeled as the worst president in the history of the USA...to possible self-sacrificing SAVIOR.  Something worth considering.

Oh, when August comes, with the country hitting an apex in mid-summer, and all seeming well, he can always, with his supporters clamoring for him to change his mind, reluctantly re-inject himself for the Republican nomination.  Under these conditions, the odds are high that he will be re-elected.

No one comments on this blog site, but I get all kinds of e-mails, many sending jokes and cartoons which I have more and more included.  Here is one from a friend somewhat overwrought with her survival prospects.  I responded with:

Of course, take every precaution, as you are doing.  However, no need to get too paranoid about COVID-19.  The odds on you catching it are nearly zero.  I can't imagine anything close to 50% of the world contracting this novel coronavirus as your sources say.  With the 1.4 million now afflicted, that is only 0.02%, or 2/10,000 the population of the world.  A long way to go from 1.4 million to 3.765 billion cases.

Especially so with the world death rate now seeming to plateau.  Hawaii had the lowest new cases/day in ten days, although this will go up for a while as the 15-minute test kits become more available.  Sure, there is a model estimating Hawaii deaths at 155.  But we have only 4 deaths so far, and Bruce Anderson said that this Washington model did not consider the fact that Hawaii has pretty much shut down any contamination from incoming visitors by quarantining them for 14 days.  No other state has done that, mostly because you can't stop cars from entering your state.

But say 155 do pass away, that is only 0.01% of the Hawaii population, or one chance in 10,000 for your imminent demise.  That is close to the odds of dying in a traffic accident in Hawaii.  You still drive.  If anything, always stay home, which of course would be no way to live. 

At our age, we don't have that much time left.  Keep enjoying life to the max...within reason.
