Day 101 of the Lower Puna Eruption...and I can't find anything newsworthy to report. Maybe it's over.

I'm sitting at my computer looking out at beautiful Honolulu:
Hector is long gone, and I can't figure out what to say. It is election day in Hawaii, and in the 2016 presidential vote we came in last with a 43% turnout. We were beaten by West Virginia at 51% and Texas at 52%. Minnesota was #1 with 75%. This was the fifth-consecutive presidential election bottom performance. In 1959, the year we received statehood, which means Friday (August 17) is a holiday here, there was a primary election, and 84% voted. The 1960 general election drew 93%. It's been mostly downhill since.
The White House, without the support of the Defense Department, unilaterally announced the U.S. Space Force as the sixth--in case you were unsure, the five current ones are Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps and Navy--war fighting service by 2020. One poll showed that the majority of Americans agree this is a good idea. If Russia and China make major moves in space, this could become reality. My sense is that outer space should be shared by all, and this Trump move is just another of his idiotic visions.
For reasons that defy normal common sense, Puerto Rico kept sticking to its belief that only 64 people were killed by Hurricane Maria. Finally, in a request of $139 billion from Congress, there was admittance of 1427 deaths.
Amid all the hullabaloo about immigration reform, Viktor and Amalija Knavs quietly took their citizenship vows in New York. Their daughter, Melania Trump, was not there. Her husband Donald was on vacation. To quote the Associated Press article:
Otherwise, I have a busy day today joining the 15 Craigside Photo Club to the Waikiki Aquarium. Conveniently, the Hawaiian Slack Key Festival occurs today right here, but we get in for free. After returning, I am hosting two cousins for dinner, followed by poker. Have a great weekend.
