Day 98 of the Lower Puna Eruption, and the lull continues:
*******
A few medical studies dealing with longevity:
- Moderate drinkers of ethanol live longer than abstainers.
- Those who don't touch alcohol have a 7% higher chance of dying earlier or being diagnosed with cancer.
- However, the death risk jumps to 20% for those who have three drinks/day.
- Thus, the obvious message is, do drink, but no too much.
- This Queen's University (Belfast) study led by Andrew Kunzmann examined health data of almost 100,000 U.S. adults aged 55-74.
- Also from the UK, a small amount of marine algae added to cattle food can reduce methane emissions from cattle as much as 99%.
- Early results from the University of California at Davis seems to confirm this statement.
- Always wondered which methane-production process dominated, but belching exceeds flatulation in cows.
- Methane is the second most important global warming gas, and is responsible for my Venus Syndrome.
- California has introduced regulations calling for dairy farmers to cut methane emissions by 40% over the next decade.
- On to the Blue Revolution, for marine macro-algae is the product ranchers more and more will want to utilize.
- Limiting global warming may save over $20 trillion.
- A Stanford University study with lead author Marshall Burke (right) found that keeping global warming a half-degree below the 2 C Paris Agreement target could potentially save $20 trillion globally.
- The price of implementing this more ambitious goal would cost only half a trillion dollars over the next 30 years.
- Donald Trump would beg to differ. Global warming had little bearing in the 2016 presidential election.
- As you must know, checking planetary heating will prolong your life.
- Two weeks of physical inactivity can trigger full-blown diabetes in seniors with pre-diabetes!!!
- 25% of those 65 and older have diabetes.
- 84 million Americans 18 and older have pre-diabetes.
- Pre-diabetes increases with age.
- EXERCISE!!!
- The older you get, the LESS sleep you need.
- However, how many seniors average the recommended 7-8 hours/night?
- Increasing age means more trips to the bathroom at night. Nocturnia increases with age.
- As much as length of sleep, quality is perhaps more important.
- Watch Daniel Gartenberg in a 6 minute TED talk on sleep.
- It is deep sleep that you most want, and, apparently, there could well be a way to do this.
- I've personally found that an extra hour or two of sleep after you first wake up provides me this quality.
- I sleep more in my present apartment at 15 Craigside than I did at Craigside. Room temperature can now be controlled and I just make time in the morning to sleep more. I also take a few more naps, which do count. Does not seem to affect my going to sleep at night. I do feel better.
- I've had numerous sleep postings, and here is one from seven years ago.
- Someday soon I'll again focus on sleep as a major posting.
- Which leads me to a rather astounding declaration from one of those whole page ads the Star Advertiser foists on readers to improve profits: Hearing Loss can increase the risk of Dementia by 200-500% (page following A3 of the 7 August 2018 issue--note that this ad has no page number). This is the firm, led by founder Randy Wohlers, who I mentioned in one of my postings in 2009:
A few years ago I happened to be walking by the Hearing Aid Center on the ground floor of the Ala Moana Building, and walked in to get my hearing checked, for free. Randy Wohlers himself did the testing. He had a micro camera linked to a TV set and showed me how shiningly clean my ears were. This was a revelation, because I feared the worst from all the sweat and sunblock that I thought were clogging my hearing canals. He indicated that the skin grows outwardly, so this was expected. Further, he said my hearing was borderline, but not bad enough for a hearing aid. Great.
Turns out that Wohlers got this info from the Johns Hopkins Medical Center. Specifically, Dr. Frank Lin (left) is featured. In this link is also some information about tinnitus therapy.
- On page A5 (this ad is on a real page because it occupies only half the page): New Pill Reverses Memory Loss in an Amazing Way.
- Lipogen PS Plus
- comes from Israel
- rejuvenates brain cells in the hippocampus
- the active ingredient, phosphatidylserine, is natural, healthy and safe, with no side effects, and can be taken with other medications
- supported by impressive and groundbreaking medical research (their statement)
- reversed mental age by nearly 12 years
- A phone number is provided for discounted prices.
- At the very bottom of the ad is this miniature-size statement:
