- Again, weekend numbers are lower.
- However, something terrible is happening to India, with 91,723 new cases.
- China only had 10 new cases and no new deaths. But they are just now opening their schools in Wuhan, 2842 institutions and 1.4 million students. If nothing happens, that would be good news for the world.
- But the USA, for one, is opening schools with a lot of asymptomatic cases roaming around. Universities are already showing the effects. Not only early, but with still a lack of quick tests available.
David Brooks of The New York Times recently had an op-ed: What will you do if Trump doesn't leave? In short, nothing much, apparently. Now that's frightening. We can protest, as is now happening in Belarus.
Have you been keeping up with what is happening there?
- President Alexander Lukashenko just won his sixth term. In other words, he has headed the country since 1994.
- No analogy to Trump, right? Wrong.
- While Trump doesn't have things fixed up to rig the coming election, Lukashenko did. Clearly, this is what happened, the masses finally said enough is enough. Of all the terms, this is being called the Anti-Cockroach Revolution.
- One of his failings is a Trump-like screw up of this coronavirus.
- Of course, Putin will help Lukashenko, right? Probably wrong, for whatever replaces him will almost surely still be pro-Russia.
Did you know that Woodstock, the bird from Peanuts, was inspired by the 1969 concert? The comic strip was now and then influenced by the changing times.
Yesterday I wished myself a happy birthday and linked my life to events happening around me these past 80 years. Today, I continue on a lighter vein, but connect to what I've been doing over the weekend, which was some binge-watching of many rock concert films. I'll provide details tomorrow.
Today, and I've posted on this subject several times now, I focus on Woodstock, for the final documentary I saw last night was Woodstock: 3 Days That Changed Everything (W:3DTCE) It's free on Amazon Prime. I think this 54-minute finale is relatively new, for I can't seem to find it on Rotten Tomatoes or Wikipedia, and I can't access the You Tube trailer.
You can also see for free on Amazon Prime, Taking Woodstock, a full 2009 film said to be one of Ang Lee's misfires, for Rotten Tomatoes gave it 49/47 ratings and it was a box office bomb. Also free on Amazon Prime, Creating Woodstock, a full documentary also not rated by Rotten Tomatoes with no Wikipedia home.
In August of 1969 my wife and I were driving from Baton Rouge to Montreal to interact with the remnants of the recent World Expo. We spent the night in Hershey, Pennsylvania to visit the chocolate company. I then read about a concert in Woodstock, New York, just 250 miles away.
There was no rush to get to Canada, and Woodstock perfectly between Hershey and Montreal. However, as we got close to New York City, we decided to stop by overnight, which became two, a 165 mile jaunt.
We heard some rumors about Woodstock being kind of crowded and maybe even a mess, with a storm approaching. Interstate 87 went directly to Montreal, almost 400 miles away. At Kingston, only about ten miles from Woodstock, we saw that the traffic to get off was a problem, so we continued on to Montreal. That's one of the better decisions I've ever made.First, those Woodstock concerts were never held there. The original occurred in Bethel, 66 driving miles away. Thirty-two acts performed for 400,000, and it actually went on for four days. But it rained. Mud. A mess. Yet, the pivotal moment in popular music history, defining the counterculture generation. Joni Mitchell wrote the song, Woodstock, but never appeared. Here she is singing this song a few weeks later.
Some of the musicians performed at the original festival of 1969. There were jam sessions with Richie Havens, Taj Mahal, Alhaji Bai Konte, Dembo Konte, Country Joe and the Fish, Canned Heat, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter and Elliott Randall. Also appearing were Rick Danko,[1] Jorma Kaukonen, Stephen Stills, Paul Butterfield, and Johnny Winter [2] among others.
There were several 10th year celebrations, including at Parr Meadows racetrack, where 18,000-40,000 showed up (not sure):Performers included Paul Butterfield and Rick Danko,[1] Canned Heat, Richie Havens, Jorma Kaukonen, Country Joe McDonald, John Sebastian, Michael Shrieve, Stephen Stills, Leslie West, and Johnny Winter.[2][3]
The 25th year anniversary concert was held on Winston Farm, just west of Saugerties and 70 miles northeast of Bethel. The two days of Peace and Music became three. 164,000 tickets were sold, but 550,000 came, so people just found ways to enter. Entertainers: Sheryl Crow, Joe Cocker, Melissa Etheridge, Crosby/Still/Nash/Sebastian, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, Aerosmith, Country Joe McDonald, Thelma Houston, Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Peter Gabriel, Santana and a lot more.
Jefferson Starship, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Canned Heat, Ten Years After and Tom Constanten. Some dates featured Melanie, Edgar Winter, John Sebastian, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Mountain and the Levon Helm Band. Country Joe McDonald hosted all of the concerts, playing a couple of songs in between the different sets.
Artists initially announced for the Woodstock 50 lineup included The Killers, Imagine Dragons, Halsey, Miley Cyrus, Robert Plant, The Raconteurs, Cage the Elephant and Janelle Monáe. The lineup also included several musical acts that had performed at the original 1969 festival, such as Dead & Company (featuring three members of the Grateful Dead), John Fogerty (with Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1969), Santana, David Crosby (with Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1969), Melanie, John Sebastian, Hot Tuna (featuring two members of Jefferson Airplane), Canned Heat and Country Joe McDonald (lead singer of Country Joe and the Fish in 1969).[4]
Michael Lang, one of the original creators of Woodstock just could not get the proper funding from Dentsu, a Japanese investment firm.
But, without Lang:
A second Woodstock 50th anniversary event, held at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts—the site of the original 1969 festival—was also scheduled for August 2019. The lineup for the three-day concert program included John Fogerty and Santana, both of whom were included in the Woodstock 50 lineup, as well as Ringo Starr, Arlo Guthrie, Edgar Winter, the Doobie Brothers, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tedeschi Trucks Band, and Grace Potter.[24][25] Lang was not involved with the Bethel concert and filed a cease-and-desist notice against its organizer Live Nation for promoting it as a rival event to his Woodstock 50 festival.[26] The Bethel concerts were held as planned on August 16–18.[25]
The amphitheater audience numbered 15,000. And you thought you knew Woodstock.

He says one reason The Donald doen't like immigrants is that they almost all vote for Democrats. But he is relatively nice to Trump, with the overall message being upbeat and progressive. He has written several books, one about Trump.
By the way, did you know Donald Trump, Jr. released Triggered? Maybe there is an anti-Trump conspiracy, for you probably never heard of it. Just came out last year.
