THE BEST AND WORST FILMS, EVER

Are these the ten best movie scenes of all time?  The worst 15 scenes of all time?  Ten worst sex scenes in movies?  #1, or the worst, came from Birdemic:  Shock and Terror, said to be the worst film ever made.  Click on it, the whole movie.  Rotten Tomatoes ratingsreviewers=19% / audiences=26% (for others, these numbers will be in the parentheses).

The 25 best sex scenes?  #1 came from The Double Life of Veronique (82/92, R-rated). Visual poetry, some think this is the best film ever made, period.

Ranker would disagree, for they rank The Godfather  (98/98) as #1, The Shawshank Redemption (91/98) #2 and Pulp Fiction #3 (94/96)  The Wizard of Oz (98/89) is #48, Gone with the Wind (92/92) #54, and The Graduate (89/90)at #100.

No relation to worldwide grosses:
  • #1      $2.788 billion   Avatar (82/82)
  • #2      $2.188 billion   Titanic (89/69, 1997), might add
    • 1953 Titanic (90/65) with Clifton Web and Barbara Stanwyk
    • 1958 A Night to Remember (100/90%, 1958) with Kenneth Moore, David McCallum and Honor Blackman
    • there have been 17 Titanic films
  • #3      $2.068 billion   Star Wars:  The Force Awakens (93/87, 2015)
  •
  • #100  $0.74 billion   Monsters University (79/81)
The American Film Industry has Citizen Kane (100/90, 1941) as #1, Casablanca (97/95, 1942) at #2 and The Godfather (98/98, 1972) at #3.  #100 is Yankee Doodle Dandy (92/83, 1942).

Japanese films somehow got lost a few decades ago, but the consensus best are Seven Samurai (100/97, 1954/6--got wider distribution in 1956) and Rashomon (98/93, 1951whole film, but you need to skip through the introduction) both directed by Akira Kurosawa.

Here is just one list of the greatest foreign films of all time, from The Guardian (note that other ratings disagree, which is the nature of this topic) are:
  • Worst:  Batman and Robin (10/16, 1997), with Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Clooney and Uma Thurman.
  • Next worst:  Gigli (6/122003), with Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck and Christopher Walken
  • Only third worst:  Twilight (49/72, 2008), Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene, Anna Kendrick
I'm particularly proud that I missed all of them.

Finally, Wikipedia provides the best films ever, as voted by an international group of film critics:
  • Bicycle Thief (1948, the whole film) topped the first poll in 1952 with 25 votes.[1]
  • Citizen Kane (1941, full movie...but) topped five critics' polls, with 22 votes in 1962, 32 votes in 1972, 45 votes in 1982, 43 votes in 1992, and 46 votes in 2002. It also topped the first two directors' polls, with 30 votes in 1992 and 42 votes in 2002.[1]
  • Vertigo (96/931958, full movie,...but) topped the critics' poll in 2012 with 191 votes, dethroning Citizen Kane.[1]
  • Tokyo Story (1953, the whole film) topped the directors' poll in 2012 with 48 votes, dethroning Citizen Kane.[1]
