It's Friday, the weekend begins at the end of the day, time for some entertainment. Surely by now you have heard of K-pop groups such as BTS. Well, another, NCT 127, a Korean boy group with seven (or, maybe nine) members, is now in the news. More specifically, Haechan (pronounced HECH'-ehn) gained international fame by having a baby pudu at the Los Angeles Zoo named after him. Why. Their fans said it looked like Haechan. Plus, they raised $2000 for the cause. Mostly, because the whole effort went viral.
What is a pudu? It is the world's smallest deer, and comes from South America. About NCT 127, their Regular-Irregular reached #5 last year on Billboard. Here is an English version.
If there is a rock group I'll ever go to see, it is the Rolling Stones. They were supposed to already be on tour, but Mick Jagger underwent heart valve surgery last month. He is 75, but their No Filter journey begins in Chicago with two shows on June 21 and 25. They first formed around the time I graduated from college in 1962.
Speaking of tours, I actually saw Elton John shows twice, in Honolulu and Los Angeles. He generally sings for two hours straight, gravely voice or not. Sir Elton Hercules John (actually born as Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, making him 72) has partnered with lyricist (who writes the words) Bernie Taupin since 1967, selling more than 300 million records, nine reaching #1 on Billboard and seven consecutive #1 albums in the USA. Candle in the Wind 1997, a tribute to Princess Diana, sold over 33 million copies, the best selling song ever in the U.S. and U.K. since Billboard came into existence. White Christmas by Bing Crosby remains at the top with 50 million.
What I'm leading to is his Rocketman, a movie, co-produced by Elton's husband, David Furnish, was just unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival. Rotten Tomatoes reviewers has given an 89% rating, with audiences to come. It's a two-hour epic, rated R, of a small town boy who becomes an icon. Taron Edgerton (with Elton) plays John, while Jamie Bell is Bernie Taupin. Bryce Dallas Howard has a role as Elton's mother. You just got to watch Elton and Taron together singing Rocketman at Cannes.
