First of all, when you watch the Super Bowl tomorrow, focus on the punting. A couple of years ago the BEST part of any University of Hawaii football game was our 28-year old punter from Australia, Scott Harding, who was known as the most interesting man in college football. Our team was so bad that the only hope we had was for the opponent's receiver to fumble Harding's punts.
Go back even further to 2008. Johnny Hekker and Ryan Allen walk on to be the punter for Oregon State. There is one scholarship available. Hekker, also a former quarterback in high school, beats out Allen. Such is life, and surely, they now hate each other. Nope, Allen moved on to Lousiana Tech and won the Ray Guy Award for two years in row as the best NCAA punter. 
Then and now, they train during the summer together, and just met for coffee. Hekker punts for the Los Angeles Rams and Allen for the New England Patriots. Watch Hekker, for he not only might be the best NFL punter ever, but also now and then passes, as he did in the recent playoff game against the Saints to get the Rams into the Super Bowl. Oh, notice that both wear #6.
How much is Donald Trump asking for his Mexican wall? $5 billion? $5.8 billion? Super Bowl betting this year will reach $6 billion. Incidentally, this is the first Super Bowl since the Supreme Court legalized sports betting. Except that betting is still illegal in Hawaii. Not that 15 Craigside is a betting hotbed, but we do play poker for money, where the "house" takes a cut, and I have the Rams to win by 6 points for a total of 60 points scored. Both, illegal.
Most Americans care more about the commercials than the game, and proposition bets over traditional game results. For example:
- Whose age will be closer to the total points scored (Go to the right column and insert those numbers into the appropriate ODDS CALCULATOR BOX. Then click on CONVERT. You will get 80% probability for Belichik and 29% for McVay.)
- Bill Belichick (66 years old) -400
- Sean McVay (33 years old) +250
- How many times will the broadcast mention the age of the Rams’ 33-year-old wunderkind coach Sean McVay? OddsShark has the over-under at 1.5, with the over favored at -175 (64%).

The best bet here is clear/water at +400. While the odds say otherwise, this actually feels like the most likely scenario. Given that you’d be getting 4:1 odds, this is a sensible bet. Given that it’s a main color for both teams, blue at +375 might seem tempting. But generally, players tend to consume drinks high in Vitamin C on the sidelines. That would tend to point to lime/green/yellow (+225) or orange (+300). Water feels like the smartest bet. But if you’re not wild about that, one of those two would give you the best return on your investment.
+400 means a probability of 20% and +225 or 31%.

You kind of begin to appreciate why some keep watching the TV screen, for they need to know if their bets succeeded.
Then there are those commercials. Not as uproarious anymore, but still a fixture. This is the only sporting event where a good number might eat and talk during the game, but watch with some interest the commercials. What can you expect this year?

- Stella Artois will feature Sarah Jessica Parker and Jeff Bridges
- Devour Foods on food porn.
