History
Thirty-eight years ago, the Stanford Alumni Association launched the Stanford Wine Program as an experiment. We invited Stanford alumni working in the wine industry to sample a variety of wines and select finalists for a new custom label program. We sold over 12,000 bottles of wine that first year. Little did we know that it would become such a strong alumni tradition and here we are, over a million bottles later, in 2018.
I've been subscribing to the Stanford Wine Collection since the late 1980's. I yesterday reported on their arrival (scroll down to the next article) at 15 Craigside, paid for, in part, with my blood. Five cases, or 60 wines, seem like a lot, but one a week pretty much takes care of the annual consumption, for the dinner tables I sit with here drink more than that/person...a lot more. The latest six to the left.
Here they are:

Cardinal Classic
Del Rio
2017 Rogue Valley Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13%
Titratable Acid: 6.2 G/L
Bottling Date: July 2018
Aromas of citrus and stone fruit with accent of vanilla from the partial barrel aging. The mouthfeel is fresh, vibrant, complex and lingering thanks to the balance of acidity and lees aging.
$25.30
Cardinal Classic
Kunde
2016 Sonoma Valley Malbec
Alcohol: 14.5%
Titratable Acid: 6.5G/L
Bottling Date: July 2018
A distinctive, full-flavored red. The wine opens with compelling aromas of Rainier cherry, clove and a touch of vanilla. Its beautiful dark purple color and rich tannins offer flavors of ripe raspberry and white chocolate with a toasty nutmeg finish.
$28.75
Governor's Selection
Pence Ranch
2015 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay
Alcohol: 13%
pH: 3.35
Bottling date: July 2018
The fruit for this wine was grown on a mixture of clay, limestone and calcareous soils with north-facing expositions. The wine has vibrant aromas of fresh yellow citrus indicating our sunny but cold, oceanic climate. It is a rich and concentrated wine, which are hallmarks of the low-yielding 2015 vintage, while also deftly showing our restraint in the cellar with conservative use of new oak.

Cardinal Rule
2013 Dry Creek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: 14.3%
Titratable Acid: 6.3 G/L
Bottling Date: July 2014
Classic in style, this Cabernet Sauvignon is a pure reflection of the Dry Creek Valley. Bright red fruits dominate the nose. In the mouth, ripe red and dark berry flavors dominate, with a hint of peppery and spice notes. This wine is sure to reward you as it ages for the next 10 years.

2016 Bootlegger's Hill Russian River Valley
Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Alcohol: 14.2%
pH: 3.69
Titratable Acid: 6.3 G/L
Bottling Date: November 2017
The lovely aroma starts with ripe pomegranate and cherry with a hint of conifer and mocha. The nose opens into baking spices, sandalwood and potpourri backed by lush dark fruit. The mouth is bright and expansive, starting with raspberry, tart cherry and moving into ripe black cherry, raspberry, sweet earth and a very long finish.
$86.25
Collector's Reserve

Lyndenhurst by Spottswoode
2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Alcohol: 14.1%
pH: 3.7
Titratable Acid: 6.3 G/L
Bottling Date: July 2017
The 2014 growing season yielded beautiful Cabernets with excellent depth and density, and a pervasive sense of poise and harmony. The 2014 Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon is fruit-forward, vibrant and demonstrative. Made from grapes grown in our estate vineyard along with those from other exceptional sites, Lyndenhurst is a compelling Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, bright and beautifully balanced with abundant youthful appeal.
I will share the first bottle with my Sunday night table. The most expensive, the Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon, I traditionally bring to my Christmas Eve dinner here with the Matsuda family. I might just splurge on the 2013 Cardinal Rule Cab tonight with Japanese wagyu beef and o-toro sashimi.
