Way back around 320 years ago, we actually had witch trials in Salem, Massachusetts. Increase Mather and his son, Cotton, were prominent authors of witchcraft books in those days.
Nineteen witches were hanged, mostly women, but one was Reverend George Burroughs. All told, 78% of people accused and convicted of witchcraft were women. Conservative Puritan secular leaders, you would today call them Republicans, were responsible for this historic tragedy. Today, liberal Democrats are the clear troublemakers. Except the key difference is that their target, President Donald Trump, must clearly be a witch.
I bring all this to your attention so that, unless you're a hopeless political junkie, I can save you a lot time by laying out what will happen to Donald Trump and the impeachment process, and why. You can skip all those Senate hearings and presidential debates. Don't get caught up in this witch hunt. Get a life!
The "facts" are clear. Everything President Trump and his associates are doing, not unlike in Colonial Salem, shows obvious guilt. Sure, that quid pro quo demand regarding Ukraine is real. Circumstantial evidence is right out there in the open. Yet, Republicans are doing everything possible to protect our President. The determining issue: Is this crime impeachable? Is something like hanging deserved? Depending on who is in power, yes and no.
The Senate is controlled by Republicans. You need 66 votes to convict the President. Thus, this witch trial will come to a conclusion someday soon with no conviction. Whether witnesses like John Bolton are allowed to testify during the impeachment process is almost irrelevant.
For some reason, Republicans want the matter to be voted on before Trump's State of the Union Address on February 4. Big deal. Before or after, not important.
Republicans think best that Trump remain their presidential candidate on November 3...and so do the Democrats. They don't want to boot Trump out office. They want to make him look so much like a witch that any Democrat they choose to run against him will win, male or female.
I still think Michelle Obama is potentially their best candidate. She has said she won't run, but even Fox News host Tucker Carlson has speculated otherwise.
About that upcoming election, unless the economy tanks, it will not matter. Unless Trump sends us into a serious Middle East war, same for foreign policy. The taint of the impeachment process? Not so important. Healthcare? Sure, but views are already part of the given, and not a determinator. Here are the 16 important issues according to Gallup.
Trump's witch-like nature, or character, did not even make that list of 16. Yet, it's out there that he just doesn't treat women right. Half of the voters on November 3 will be women. In 2016 Trump carried the non-college-educated white women vote by 27 points. Since then, they have been slipping away. Trump's attitude on the environment is also having an impact on college-educated urban white women.
The wild card in 2020 will be the Hispanic vote. For the first time, in 2020, more of them will vote than African Americans. Immigration should be the commanding issue, and the wall must be irritating to many of them. Latinos in the U.S. apparently have a strong belief in the spirit world. This from Pew Research. If Donald Trump is a witch, that could be fatal for him.
Thus, forget impeachment as a factor for deciding who will win on November 3. The two dominant determinants will be those marginal voters: Hispanics and Women who have changed their minds, with global warming possibly being just crucial enough to have an effect on the latter. Toss in the matter of Donald Trump possibly being a witch and....wait a minute, this is not Colonial Salem.
So in 2020 it should be clear that Donald Trump is not a shylock. Whoops, wrong term. He can be a revengeful loan shark, which he is. You know my tongue-in-cheek reference of our President as a male witch, or warlock, was to elicit some humor out of this historical sham. That is, he will not be similarly impeached by the Senate.
