As we prepare for Hurricane Felicia, in the western end of the Pacific, two storms have caused considerable damage. Typhoon Morakot, in particular, has killed up to 50 people in the Philippines, Taiwan and China. A million were sheltered in China, but the worry is about the 600 missing in Taiwan.
Tropical Typhoon Etau just formed south of Japan, moved north, and is affecting Japan at this writing, causing deaths and a lot of damage. A dozen have thus far been killed and 47,000 were evacuated.
You've all been reading about Felicia, so let me show the latest track.
Interesting that my August 6 blog showed mathematical models projecting Felicia striking Maui, when most weather stations had her crossing the Big Island.

Finally, while we don't know for sure what will happen with what should be Tropical Depression Felicia, we tend to forget how much worse the situation is in Taiwan from Typhoon Morakot. Some areas of that island, for example, got 100 inches of rain...one hundred inches...more than 8 feet.

While nothing much is happening in the Atlantic, there are now four surrounding Hawaii: a former hurricane, a tropical depression and two invests, with the one south and west of Hawaii (92) in an odd position, with one model predicting a movement east and north towards Hawaii.
