My posting yesterday underscored the beauty of music...it lives on forever. So will Tim Conway, who passed away yesterday at the age of 85. He was my favorite comedian, right up there with Woody Allen (and Diane Keaton was once actually good looking), Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer and those Hitler Parodies.
Said Vicki Lawrence:
"Hysterical, crazy, bold, fearless, humble, kind, adorable... all synonyms for Tim Conway," Lawrence said in a statement. "I am so lucky to ever have shared a stage with him. Harvey and Tim are together again...the angels are laughing out loud tonight."
Perhaps the best skit on TV ever was The Dentist, with Harvey Korman. Quoting Carol Burnett below, right.
Thomas Daniel "Tim" Conway grew up in a suburb of Cleveland and graduated from Bowling Green State University. He gained a following with his inept portrayal of Ensign Charles Parker in McHale's Navy. He carried on his bumbling personality in TV's Rango as a Texas Ranger.
Then in 1970 as star of The Tim Conway Show, which lasted season. On to The Tim Conway Comedy Hour, lasting 13 weeks. A film with Don Knotts, The Apple Dumpling Gang, was a hit 1975. So Rotten Tomatoes bestowed 56%/60% ratings.
That year he became a regular on The Carol Burnett Show. While in 1980 he again got The Tim Conway Show, which lasted a little more than a year, the fact of the matter is that, with his 13 Emmys, his 10-year presence on The Carol Burnett Show was where he made his mark.
Another of Conway's sketches that you might remember seeing is of American prisoner Lyle Waggoner, who breaks up after three verses of I've Been Working on the Railroad, but escapes anyway.
