Rather than summarize the national mid-term elections, let me just copy my 25 October 2018 posting:
In the USA, Trump's approval rating actually has improved a bit, now at 43%. However disapproval is at 52%. The chances of Republicans retaining control of the House after November 6 is, as of two days ago, between 1 in 7 and 2 in 9. In other words, the Democrats will most likely regain control over the House of Representatives. However, there is only 1 chance in 6 of Democrats becoming the majority party in the Senate.
Ah, but on 3 November 2020, it will be Trump versus, no doubt, a female Democrat. Michelle Obama? That would be fun. Most of the Senate incumbents running for re-election will be Republicans (red states):
I've already almost forgotten 6 November 2018. However, I'm getting excited about 3 November 2020.
So this morning President Donald Trump had a bizarre one and a half hour press conference, where he was his usual narcissistic self, but also almost delusional and fiercely combative, especially antagonistic with CNN reporters. He will be faced with a Democratic House whose oversight will only pave the way for his doom.
So what will happen over the next two years?
- First, Trump essentially fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions today.
- The timing only conjures up the coming of another Saturday Night Massacre committed by President Richard Nixon 45 years ago.
- This is Trump's final chance to get rid of the Mueller investigation with Republicans still heading both houses of Congress.
- This could well become a constitutional crisis, but chances are that the U.S. Congress will find a way to insure for a reasonable transition.
- In any case, Robert Mueller is no idiot, and chances are that something like sealed indictments are already officially in the pipeline to nail Donald Trump.
- Nancy Pelosi will become the next Speaker of the House, and will work with the White House to pass legislation related to commerce and infrastructure priorities.
- However, there will be angry elements of the House "allowed" to carry on a cold war with Trump, their role effectively to sufficiently weaken him in 2020.
- There will be subpoenas targeting Trump, his family, finances and morality.
- Impeachment could well be initiated by the House, but the Senate will not actually impeach Trump. That will be fine with Democrats, for the strategy is to weaken him for 3 November 2020. Here is the law:

- Who will run against Donald Trump in 2020? Six months ago, here were the top candidates:
My favorite remains Michelle Obama. Trump has been so anti-Obama, that The Donald's final crushing by Michelle would be the essence of divine justice. Note on the list are also Oprah Winfrey and Duane "The Rock" Johnson. Hey, if Ronald Reagan made it, why not Oprah and The Rock? But an Obama victory would be so soul satisfying.
