Earlier this year I spoke to the
Travel Club at 15 Craigside on how to plan an around the world trip. Hey, I am, after all, probably the world authority on this subject, having journeyed the globe more than ten times. Here is my power point on this presentation. There was sufficient
interest to form a small committee to work out the details for the Fall of this
year. Four itineraries were developed:
3. Joining the group only in
Europe, beginning in London, then trains to Paris, Milan (for the World Expo).
Venice, Frankfurt, Budapest, Tauck river cruise to Amsterdam, and home to
Honolulu.
I will mostly be staying at Starwood hotels, and Outrigger Travel has the details.
If you made it this far and happen to live in Honolulu, you are invited to my presentation later this month at 15 Craigside:
15 Craigside Place
(up Nuuanu Avenue, one block past Judd Street, turn right just before the cemetery and the security guard will tell you where to park)
The Theater
-
1. A 65-day Star Alliance around the globe trip
on business class, including one week on the Green Car Japan Rail Pass to Hokkaido and a
two week Tauck European river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. Other stops include what CNN calls the coolest city in the world, Seoul, and stay at a next generation hotel; Singapore for their 50th anniversary; Dubai to visit the tallest building (2722 feet--#2 at 2080 ft is the Tokyo Skytree, which we will also see); Milan for the World Expo, Amsterdam to a coffee shop (serves coffee, but marijuana is available, and, so far, tourists haven't been arrested); and more.
2. A shortened journey on coach
class for one month, skipping the Japan Rail Pass, Tauck European river cruise and
stops in the USA. The price drops by 70% to $12,900.
3. Joining the group only in
Europe, beginning in London, then trains to Paris, Milan (for the World Expo).
Venice, Frankfurt, Budapest, Tauck river cruise to Amsterdam, and home to
Honolulu.
4. An even shorter itinerary only
to Japan for the one week Shinkansen trip from Tokyo to Kanazawa (new Shinkansen service began in March), Matsumoto, Sapporo and Kyoto.
There can be innumerable variations to the above. For example, friends have been telling me that they would rather go to Barcelona rather than Paris, and so on, and these adjustments can easily be accommodated. Presented will be the full itinerary, including costs for each option.
Outrigger Travel will send an agent to provide interface if requested.
If you've never been on an around the world trip, this could be your
last chance. Also too, the adventure is open to your children, grandchildren
and friends. Invite them to the presentation.
NOTE: this is NOT a tour, as such. I'm going, but will not act as your guide. You can follow me as you wish, but I will not be responsible for you, although my general nature is such that I will, of course, be as helpful as possible. If there is sufficient response, however, perhaps Outrigger might find interest in actually leading this effort with a real person from their company.
