In a word, yes. Renewable electricity is, indeed, cleaner than the more conventional forms, relative to global warming (grams carbon dioxide per KWh):
o 667--Coal fired power plant
o 400--Natural gas fired power plant
o 200--Coal fired power plant with carbon capture (this is known as clean
--------coal, but is not close to being commercialized)
o 30--PV station
o 25--Nuclear fired-power plant
o 11--Wind farm
The carbon contribution of nuclear and the renewables, of course, comes from the manufacturing, transport and installation of the system.
The price of oil is falling! Bloomberg has petroleum today at $128.40/barrel.
